From the very practical – oats are highly nutritious – to the more fun-loving – oats are a very versatile food – this grain sets itself apart from other types of foods in more ways than one. In fact, in recent years oats have become known as a superfood. Just in case you need any further convincing, there are the reasons why oats are good for you.

  • They provide plenty of fiber

Oats contain a great deal of fiber. Called beta-glucans, this fiber is water soluble and slows the absorption of carbohydrates. Because of the slowdown of carbs entering your bloodstream, spikes in the insulin and blood sugar levels are reduced. This is an important step when it comes to the body feeling like it needs to produce and store fat.

  • Good source of magnesium

Magnesium is an element that is crucial to the good health of your body. In addition to energy production and enzyme function, magnesium offers a plethora of benefits for your heart such as the regulation of blood pressure and relaxing the blood vessels. Additionally, getting enough magnesium on a daily basis can help prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

  • Lots of ways to eat them

When you hear the word “oats,” your first thought is probably oatmeal. This popular food was traditionally eaten during breakfast time to recharge the body after the long night. You can eat it with a dollop of fresh fruit or yogurt on top. They can also be used in baked goods such as breads and pancakes.

Taking a bowl of oatmeal as an on-the-go option for snacking is not likely to be the most convenient method though. Fortunately, these days oatmeal is offered in an array of delicious products such as snack bars that allow for easier eating while on the go.

Oats add a texture to foods that is incredibly satisfying. Nutty with a slight crunch, raw or toasted oats provide a wildly different type of texture than do cooked oats.
